Kelly Reedy

Creative arts therapist statement

Mirror Image probes the complexities of the relationship between three generations of women. Viewers witness the journey of a young girl through the deep waters of her subconscious realm, where she encounters memories and emotions, which in turn transform her own image of Self through the aid of the archetypal shield of Medusa, representing both the Great and Terrible Mother.

By collaging fragments of my drawings, prints, photographs, and films into a unified moving image, I represent my personal journey into my subconscious and the healing transformation that I have experienced as a woman, daughter, and mother through this process.

This video work was part of the Sense of Self vitual exhibition hosted by JoCAT as part of the volume 16, number 1 issue in 2021. The exhibition showcased an exploration into a ‘sense of self’ in a variety of media and styles by creative arts therapists from many lands. The 37 works were curated into five virtual rooms: COMMUNITAS; DISCOVERY; SELF DURING COVID; SELF EXPRESSION; THE ALTER-EGO SELF. Kelly Reedy’s work was part of the COMMUNITAS room.
